The University 8 Mai 1945 Guelma is a public institution that offers a wide range of scientific and academic disciplines, aiming to ensure the utmost satisfaction of professors, students, and employees, as well as the socio-economic environment, in order to achieve long-term sustainability. To accomplish this, the university:

Strives to satisfy all stakeholders within the university.

Enhances performance by adopting the latest working methods, techniques, and technological systems.

Emphasizes the advancement of academic education and its optimization through specialized academic disciplines and teams.

Since its establishment, the University 8 Mai 1945 Guelma has been dedicated to promoting environmental and climate sustainability through interdisciplinary research and academic programs. These initiatives focus on sustainability, knowledge, and scientific advancements related to the environment and climate. The university houses a dedicated department of Environmental Science and Ocean Engineering, offering a variety of bachelor's and master's level disciplines such as biodiversity and environmental specialization, plant protection, as well as two research laboratories: the Biology, Water, and Environment Research Laboratory, and the Wetlands Conservation Laboratory. These labs comprise a group of specialized researchers with notable expertise in various sustainability-related fields.

Furthermore, the University 8 Mai 1945 Guelma actively engages in research projects that directly support and promote climate action and environmental sustainability. Examples of ongoing research projects include: "Rhenium(I) complexes with sulfonamide and coumarin pharmacophore-containing ligands for the selective targeting of carbonic anhydrase IX: Synthesis, characterization, molecular modeling, and biological evaluation," led by Professor SIRIDI Achour; "Microbiological and biochemical study and evaluation of the genotoxic effect of transformation by-products in the environment," under the guidance of Professor BENOURET Djamel Eddine; "Biomonitoring and assessment of ecotoxicological risks of pollutants on human health and natural ecosystems," supervised by Professor KRARA Nedjoud; "Electrochemical detection of heavy metals and organic pollutants in aqueous medium," led by Professor AFEN Abed Mohamed.

Accordingly, the University of 8 Mai 1945 Guelma, through its faculty members, researchers, and students, actively promotes sustainable development and addresses the challenges posed by climate change through extensive research and theses. The university has also taken the following measures:

Creating green spaces within the campus.
